An interview in Dazed Online with Queer Photographer Florian Hetz about his debut book called A Matter Of Absence.
Florian’s work is described as “Photos that explore the male body as a sex object” – but I think this is a far too simplistic description and leaves the art in danger of being dismissed as ‘porn’. The images are focussed upon and juxtaposed with the sensuality of the male body…skin, hair, veins, muscle all the signifiers of masculinity are explored and laid bare for the viewer to consider. Very little of the imagery would appear to be overtly sexual in nature…it is a far more sensual experience than an erotic one. We are permitted to allow our eyes to caress the naked skin, much as we might our lover in an intimate loving embrace.
